Kim has been self-employed since early 2016. She is a freelance cookery tutor, consultant, food writer, demonstrator and food event organiser.
She has an eclectic range of qualifications in Psychology (BSc Hons), Counselling, Teaching (PGCFHE), Technology in Learning and, very soon, Professional Cookery. She studied Dietary Counselling with the Institute of Health Sciences in Dublin and holds a Diploma in Nutritional Therapy from The Health Sciences Academy. She has 10 years experience in Further Education Lecturing.
Kim continues to update her skills and qualifications and is currently studying for a Diploma in Culinary Medicine, with the intention of running courses for managing chronic health conditions such as Type 2 Diabetes and nutrition classes for those who just want to eat better and stay healthy.
Kim understands and is very passionate about the fundamentally important connection between health, food & community.
She is now busily self-employed running food events, courses, workshops, demonstrations and especially enjoys having the opportunity to teach young people hands-on cookery skills and nutrition information. Having learned to make great bread from Richard Bertinet, Kim is also passionate about passing on bread-making skills, the therapeutic potential of bread-making and demystifying the whole bread-making process. She believes that, if you are going to eat bread, it should be great bread – and is a proud member of Real Bread Ireland.
“I want to teach as many people as I can to cook,” Kim says. “It’s time to get everyone back in the kitchen cooking from scratch.”
Kim also provides private cookery tuition – both to groups and individuals. “It’s all about spreading what I’ve learned over the years and giving people the knowledge and confidence to start creating good food for themselves and their families”.
Going into schools to deliver workshops has become an integral part of what Kim does – educating both children and parents about the hidden sugars and nasties in foods that are all-too-readily available. Sessions can be linked to the curriculum and Key Stages.
Kim is re-building her own health and wellbeing after taking the decision to leave a very stressful work environment – she really gets that just because you might know what you should eat, it is sometimes very difficult to achieve the balance!
